The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment, through the Insect Vector Control Unit has intensified its fogging operations throughout the country as part of its mosquito control programme.
This is according to Minister of Health, Hon. Luke Browne, speaking at a Media Conference where he said the Ministry will be spending an estimated $167,000 on fogging operations over the coming months.
Minister Browne said they will also be conducting increased surveillance’s including inspection of premises.
The Ministry has also stepped up its campaign efforts to educated the nation on the Zika Virus.In most cases, the illness is mild with symptoms lasting less than a week. A possible link between Zika virus infection in pregnant women and subsequent birth defects is being investigated.
The most common symptoms of Zika virus disease are fever, rash, joint pain, and red eyes.
There’s no vaccine or specific treatment for the disease. Treatment instead focuses on relieving symptoms and includes rest, re-hydration, and medications for fever and pain.
