Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said about 2000 Vincentians are living in the Britsh Virgin Islands. He said with a population of about 23000, that number is significant, and we must do all we can to help our citizens.
Gonsalves made the disclosure while speaking on Saturday at a relief drive held by SVG Good Hearts Foundation at Heritage Square.
The Prime Minister noted that what is needed immediately is; Tarpolens, lumber, plyboard, and Galvanize, along with water and food.
He stated that the government is working as quickly as possible to get the proper supplies to the islands.
For groups wishing to donate, Gonsalves said it is important for proper coordination to take place so that supplies sent is what is needed, doing the opposite he said, will make life even more challenging.
Gonsalves said that countries who are sending helicopters like Trinidad are waiting for JOSE to exit the area, Jamacia who also would be sending helicopters to help, had to close their airspace due to extreme lighting strike.
He said Venezuela sent military cargo planes which aided in moving residents from Barbuda to mainland Antigua.
SVG Good Hearts Foundation” launched an appeal at Heritage Square from 10.00am this morning where persons can contribute Clothing, Foodstuff, Toiletries or cash.
The foundation which is mainly comprised of local entertainers said that money collected will be verified by auditors.
