Fifty students from at least 10 different schools around the island are to benefit from a Student Support Program, launched by the Small Acts of Kindness Project (SAK) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
SAK is an initiative launched in 2014 by Vincentian Brandon Bibby and other members of the Caribbean Diaspora in Canada in an effort to provide resources to at risk students that are in need of assistance.
Delivering remarks at a ceremony yesterday at the Kingstown Evangelical Church to launch the program, Executive Director of the SAK Project Brandon Bibby said assistance to the students will initially be provided in the form of school and food supplies and in some cases financial assistance.
He said plans are being made to have the program extended to include after school programs, homework clubs, mentoring programs, parent education programs and peer support programs.
Meanwhile, President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers Union (SVGTU), Oswald Robinson said the Union is happy to partner with SAK on this mission geared toward the holistic development of students who are at risk.
The schools to benefit from the initial phase of this Student Support program are Belair Government School, Gomea Methodist School, Brighton Primary School, Fancy Government, Paget Farm Government School, Troumaca Government School, Sion Hill Government School, Clare Valley Government School, Kingstown Anglican School and Kingstown Government School.
