Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fire that occurred on 20.07.2021 at Block 2000, Old Montrose, which completely destroyed two (2) buildings and damaged two (2) others.
About 12:10 p.m. on the date in question, officers from the Fire Department (Kingstown) responded to an emergency call about a fire that was in progress at Block 2000. When the fire officers arrived on the scene, one building was already destroyed and the fire was in its fully developed stage and spreading rapidly to other nearby buildings. The fire officers commenced operations by using water from their fire appliances and were able to extinguish the fire. Members of the community also assisted with buckets and garden hoses.
After the fire was brought under control, an assessment of the damages revealed that two (2) buildings were totally destroyed, including a 10 x 10 wooden house owned by Mr. Earl Frederick, and a 25 x 16 wooden building owned by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) Seventh Day Adventist Mission.
The other two (2) buildings that were damaged are the Maranatha Seventh Day Adventist Church, and a 32 x 48 first floor of a two storey concrete structure owned by Exrod Herbert.
The cause of the fire is unknown. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
