Leader of St Vincent and the Grenadines main Opposition party Dr Godwin Friday says an NDP government will repeal the amendments made to the Public Health Act.
“It is dictatorial; no matter how strong I feel about vaccination, I will not force it upon anyone. Imagine a government telling you which doctor you must submit yourself to for an examination. They are saying that if you want exemption from the immunisation program, this is the doctor you should go to for an exam; how are you going to trust that doctor”.
“Secondly, you must submit to the vaccination program if the government says its a requirement for work”. They are saying it not mandatory, but it’s required”.
Friday said it’s now something that people need to wake up to.
“They are waking up to it, but it pains me that the narrative coming out of the demonstration on Thursday is about the injury to Gonsalves and the violence. I abhor any sought of violence”.
Friday said for a while what transpired took away from the protest’s objective, which was to show the people’s disapproval with the amendments to the Public Health Act. However, the focus is returning.
“People are calling me and asking Friday they pass it? They made the changes? At 3 am? And I say yes, and that makes them angry, to say the least”.
Friday said more and more of the population realises that this is a government that will do whatever they want irrespective of the people’s wishes.
Protesters took to the streets last Thursday to show their disapproval of the government’s changes to the Public Health Act, where the COVID-19 vaccines will be mandated for specific categories of workers.
The amendments to the Act was passed early Friday morning.
