PRESS RELEASE
It has been brought to the attention of The National Executive of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers’ Union (SVGTU) that a member of our union, Sis. Adriana King was arrested yesterday Friday 13th August 2021. While we are unclear of the details surrounding her unfortunate detainment, we offer our support to her and her family in this difficult situation.
We call for fair due process as it is her constitutional right. The National Executive promises to monitor the situation as it progresses.
At a General Meeting held on Wednesday 11th August, 2021, our membership voted to continue our protest against the amendment to the Public Health legislation if it is assented to by Her Excellency, The Governor-General. We have the right to assemble peacefully as given to us by the Constitution.
We call on the authorities to practice good governance and allow the democratic processes that govern the country to be exercised on all citizens of our blessed land, Hairouna.
