There has been an uptake in vaccination across St Vincent and the Grenadines; this was revealed by Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves.
Data from the Ministry of Health shows that over 38,000 doses of vaccine have been administered. Fourteen thousand nine hundred and three persons are fully vaccinated, while over 23,000 have taken their first dose.
Gonsalves speaking on We-Fm’s Issue at hand program on Sunday, said, “the numbers are increasing, yet still not where they should be. It’s a trickle rather than a flood”.
On Sunday, a report from the Ministry of Health showed that six additional persons have succumbed to the virus bring the total to 53.
Gonsalves said the positivity rate from 9 October – 15 October showed high levels upwards of 15 percent on some days.
The Prime Minister also stated that the number of vaccinated police officers is on the increase.
“As of 14 October, some 30 percent of the police force had been fully vaccinated, while another 15 percent had taken their first shot.”
“So about 514 officers would have taken their first dose or is fully vaccinated, while over 600 have not taken any, and 8 or 10 have been on leave”.
Gonsalves says he suspects that by the time the regulations come into effect, good sense would prevail and that everyone required to be vaccinated under rules for frontline persons would have done so.
On Monday, the Ministry of Health said eight (8) patients were admitted for COVID-19 at the Argyle Isolation Facility.
Thirty (30) patients are admitted to the COVID-19 wards at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.
According to the report, one thousand six hundred and eighty-four (1684) cases are currently active, and fifty-three (53) persons with COVID-19 have died. 2
Four thousand and six hundred and twenty-seven (4627) cases of COVID-19 and two thousand, eight hundred and ninety (2890) recoveries have been recorded in St. Vincent and the Grenadines since March 2020.
