Seventy-year old Archdeacon Everton J Weekes, a Vincentian national who has served the Anglican communion for almost fifty years, has resigned suddenly over disclosure of a sex affair that allegedly happened decades ago.
It is understood that Windward Islands Bishop Leopold C Friday during a church service at the St George’s Cathedral in Kingstown disclosed the content of the report to the congregation during the notices segment of the service yesterday.
It is understood that Rev. Weekes had an affair with a young woman from a neighbouring island and she became pregnant about thirty years ago.
Interestingly, yesterday’s church service was carried live on social media but the section with Bishop Friday’s report was muted. Worshippers have, however, confirmed the report by the Windward Islands Bishop during the service.
According to information received, the disclosure of Rev. Weekes’ sex affair with the young was made recently and when he was questioned about it there was no denial. He subsequently resigned with immediate effect from his post where he was serving as Rector of St Mary’s with Holy Cross, Paget Farm, St Michael, Canouan, Mustique and St Matthias, Union Island.
Rev. Weekes holds an Upper Second Class Honours BA degree in theology from the UWI — Codrington Theological College Barbados.
The Vincentian national was ordained to the Diaconate on Dec. 21, 1976, and was ordained to the Holy Order of Priesthood on August 7, 1977. He served as Rector of the St. Simon the Cyrenian Episcopal Church, Fort Pierce, Florida from 1995 – 2013; St. Matthew Anglican Church, Inagua, Bahamas (1987); Grace Church, Riviere Doree, Choiseul, St. Lucia, with St. Paul, Vieux Fort (1982-1986).
Rev. Weekes also served as Priest-in-Charge St. Jude’s Anglican Church, Smith Point, Grand Bahama, Bahamas (1987-1995); St. John, Gouyave, Grenada, with St. Mark, Victoria (1978-1982) and Assistant Priest of the St. George’s Cathedral, Kingstown, St. Vincent from 1977-1978.
