In St Lucia, a cassava processing plant operated by the Network for Rural Women’s Cooperative Society – Micoud Cluster opened last week.
Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre noted that the new plant would provide jobs and healthy alternatives.
In a Facebook post, he recalled how the detractors missed the point when he stated, “Eat more figs,” to boost banana consumption.
Many Saint Lucians were inspired by the MP’s statement to explore innovative ways to increase the value of several local crops, the MP said.
Pierre announced that the government would continue to provide resources, training, and markets for local entrepreneurs to expand and create sustainable livelihoods.
