The University of the West Indies (UWI) invites the Caribbean public to tune in to the live virtual presentation of an Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Small Islands at COP27. Follow the conversation as UWI Professor of Urban and Regional Planning, Michelle Mycoo, represents the Caribbean in a conversation-themed, Small Islands: Staying Afloat and Alive @ 1.5 °C. Professor Mycoo is delivering introductory remarks and will be featured on the panel on Monday, November 14 from 12noon (Eastern Caribbean).

Her Excellency Janine Felson, Ambassador to Belize, and Senior Advisor to AOSIS, and CARICOM will moderate the session.
The event aims to share climate change science with a broad range of stakeholders by providing a platform to discuss climate change impacts, the implementation of adaptation solutions for small islands, which may assist in achieving transformation toward the end goal of a sustainable future for small island states, and vulnerabilities they face in addressing impacts and taking adaptation action. More about Professor Michelle Mycoo
Professor Michelle Mycoo (Ph.D.) is a Professor in Urban and Regional Planning at The UWI, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago. She served as a Coordinating Lead Author for the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change 6th Assessment Report Climate Change 2022: Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability (Small Islands Chapter 15). Professor Mycoo has been conducting research in small islands developing states for over 25 years on urban planning and human settlements, climate change adaptation, water management, disaster risk reduction and integrated coastal zone management. She is a scientific steering committee member of the International Science Council, Future Earth Coasts, UN Habitat University Partnership Initiative and UNESCO’s Committee for the Management of Social Transformation. She attained her PhD in Urban Planning at McGill University.
