Two Brazilian nationals have gone missing after a river incident on the Mazaruni River at ‘Looking Glass Falls’ about 7 a.m. yesterday.
According to authorities, the only names offered for the two missing Brazilian nationals are ‘Japow’ and ‘Bartolomeu.’
According to investigations, on Sunday 11th December 2022, at approximately 16:20 hrs, 27-year-old Assardo Adrian Savory, a Boat Captain of Lot 31 Five Miles Bartica, went to the Bartica Police Station with 52-year-old Juarez De Morais, a Brazilian businessman of Lot 3085 Providence, East Bank Demerara; 61-year-old Carlos Santos of Regent Street, Georgetown; and 21-year-old Dillon Perreira of Savory informed police that he was the skipper of a boat that sailed from the Bartica Stelling on the Essequibo River on Sunday morning on its way to the Pappy Show on the Mazaruni River. Juarez De Morais, Carlos Santos, Dillon Perreira, and the now-missing Brazilians — Japow’ and ‘Bartolomeu’ — were aboard the boat at the time, according to Savory.
He said that when navigating the river at Looking Glass Falls, the boat collided with a big wave, causing the bow of the boat to break off. Everyone was thrown overboard as a result. The two lost people were never seen again after being thrown overboard.
Savory also told authorities that he, Dellon Perreira, Juarez De Morais, and Carlos Santos jumped to safety and were rescued by a passing boat two hours later.
Efforts have been undertaken to find the missing guys, but they have so far been in vain.
The boat skipper is currently being held at the Bartica Police Station to assist with the inquiry.
