At a press conference in Kingstown on Friday, St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Commissioner Colin John revealed that a joint operation between the police narcotics unit and customs department confiscated weapons, including semi-automatic guns and ammo.
According to Commissioner John, the guns were intercepted at the port of Kingstown. Two rifles, six handguns, and 200 rounds of 7.62 ammo were brought into the island.
One person was arrested and is now a suspect in the investigations, according to John.
Commissioner John commended Customs Department personnel for their vigilance, collaboration, and help in law enforcement and spoke to the upsurge in gun-related crimes.
“We have seen in the last couple of months and the previous few years, the apparent use of weapons to commit some very serious acts, we have to, as best as possible try to minimise the quantity of firearms within St Vincent and the Grenadines”.
John on Friday extended a special thank you to the Narcotic Units
“I want to commend the members of the narcotics unit, they were the ones who undertook this successful operation”.
