Two Nigerians have been arrested for attempting to mail 1,200 grams of cocaine overseas via the Guyana Post Office Company (GPOC).
The Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) reported on Thursday that on Wednesday, while executing duties at the GPOC, CANU officers intercepted a man attempting to mail a package containing multiple items.
A white material suspected of being cocaine was discovered during a search of the box conducted in the presence of the individual.
Michael Emmanuel Ude, a 33-year-old Nigerian national residing in Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, was apprehended and escorted to CANU’s Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic, which tested positive for cocaine and was estimated to have a street value of GUY $400,000 (One Guyana dollar = 0.001 United States dollars).
Further inquiry led to the subsequent arrest of 26-year-old Nigerian national Gift Obioha of Laing Avenue, Georgetown.
