The Ministry of Health is advising residents of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to exercise caution because the COVID pandemic is not yet over.
This warning has come from the Chief Health Promotion Officer in the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and the Environment, Shanika John.
John, who spoke on NBC Radio on Friday, said that although COVID case numbers have dwindled significantly, people must continue to be cautious around the vulnerable members of the population.
So far, the Ministry of Health reports 9,589 cases, 9,466 recoveries, and 123 fatalities across the country. There were nine people who were fully vaccinated, one who was partially vaccinated, two who were boosted, and 111 who were not vaccinated.
The COVID-19 pandemic is a worldwide outbreak of coronavirus, an infectious disease caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus.
The first cases of novel coronavirus (nCoV) were detected in China in December 2019, with the virus spreading rapidly to other countries across the world. This led the WHO to declare a public health emergency of international concern on January 30, 2020, and to characterize the outbreak as a pandemic on March 11, 2020.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, over 2 million people in the European Region have died from the disease.
