Earth Day Climate March and Rallly
JCI St. Vincent (formerly known as the St. Vincent Jaycees) convened its climate march from Peace Memorial Hall to Victoria Park where a rally was subsequently held on Friday April 21, 2023.
Earth Day (April 22nd) is widely recognized as the largest secular observance in the world, marked by more than a billion people every year as a day of action. Thanks largely to the momentum created by Earth Day, the early 1970s saw the passage of many important environmental legislations, including both the Clean Air and Clean Water acts as well as the signing of the Paris Agreement.
Earth Day was celebrated under the theme: “Invest In Our Planet”, which sought to intrigue individuals to perform actions that would seek to bring together all sectors in an innovative way to help us chart a way towards a greener future. The event this year was executed in collaboration with the Caribbean Youth Environmental Network (CYEN) SVG Chapter, Rotary Club of Kingstown, CARICOM Youth Ambassadors (CYA) and the Richmond Vale Academy.
Highlights the activity included a Climate Poster Competition that was open for individuals and a Banner Competition for Secondary Schools that was won by the St. Vincent Girl’s High School.
The winners for the Poster competition were:
- Ricardo (RVA) 1stPlace
- Anicka Jackson (GHS) 2ndPlace
- Sheni (RVA) 3rdPlace
JCI St. Vincent would like to express gratitude all its partners, sponsors, community members and attendees for ensuring that the event was a successful one.
