The Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO) has responded to concerns about the overwhelming odor of’sulphur’ in the air.
It has assured Montserrat residents that the odor is caused by the peculiar wind direction, which is sending volcanic gases to the north.
According to the observatory, it’s critical to understand that volcanic gases are constantly emitted, and we only perceive the smell when the wind blows them our way.
It is stated that this event does not indicate a shift or increase in volcanic activity.
According to the most recent MVO report, activity at the Soufrière Hills Volcano remained modest from October 13 to October 20.
Eight volcano-tectonic earthquakes and three rockfalls were reported by the seismic network.
The danger level is one.
