Taiwan contributes US40k in sponsorship to Vincy Expo 2023
H.E. Fiona Huei-Chun Fan, Taiwan’s Ambassador to SVG, presented Invest-SVG with a cheque for US$40,000 in support to help defray the costs of holding Vincy Expo+ 2023.
Ambassador Fan made the statement after speaking during an opening ceremony for the 2023 Vincy Expo+ at the ET Joshua Tarmac in Arnos Vale earlier today, Thursday, October 26th.
Taiwan has sponsored the Vincy Expo since 2019, according to Ambassador Fan, and several beneficiaries of the Taiwan Funded Women Empowerment Project will be present during the 2023 expo. The Ambassador also congratulated the government and people of SVG on the occasion of the country’s 44th anniversary of independence.
Glen Beache, Executive Director of Invest SVG, notes in his opening remarks that the 2023 edition is a significant advance over previous events, displaying the best of what Vincentians have to offer, as well as exhibitors from Guyana and the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers Association.
Hon. Camillo Gonsalves, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, is in charge of Invest SVG. Minister Gonsalves stated that the ET Joshua Tarmac would be a one-time event because development on the Acute Referral Hospital project will begin soon.
The minister also emphasized the importance of the exhibition, referring to a diverse range of high-quality products manufactured locally by Vincentian entrepreneurs. He mentioned that several of the businesses taking part in this year’s event have benefited from different government-funded programs aimed at promoting the growth of SVG’s medium and small businesses.
According to Gonsalves, the 2023 Vincy Expo+ will be the largest staging of the event. Minister Gonsalves also urged for the fair to be extended this year and in the future. He suggested that the expo village remain open to welcome passengers from cruise ships visiting SVG in early November. The annual Vincy Expo debuted in April 2013 as the ‘Vincy Innovators Expo’ at the Diamond Industrial Estate.
Meanwhile, before officially declaring the 2023 Vincy Expo+ open, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves identified the legacies of colonialism and underdevelopment as existential issues for tiny and growing countries like St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The Everything Vincy Expo-Plus takes place at the northern end of the E.T. Joshua Tarmac from October 26th to 29th, 2023. The event highlights SVG’s creativity, investment potential, and cultural diversity.
