After appearing in court charged with the attempted murder of her husband, a lady in Guyana was remanded to prison.
Amanda Prince, 37, of Mahdia, was detained on Monday and charged with ‘Attempt to Commit Murder,’ in violation of Section 103(c) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.
Prince is accused of attempting to murder her alleged spouse, Ashton Courtman, 34.
The accused appeared via Zoom in front of Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce in the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
She was remanded to prison without having to enter a plea.
The victim and suspect had been living together for the past four years, according to the Guyana Police Force. The husband and wife were both drinking alcohol at their house on Sunday at 11 p.m.
According to the inquiry, the suspect’s son asked her to fry plantain, but the victim intervened and informed the suspect’s wife that he did not want plantain and that she should cook rice instead.
The woman apparently became enraged, armed herself with a little bread knife, and stabbed the victim in the right side of the chest, causing significant injuries.
The victim left his home at 10 a.m. on Monday and went to Mahdia District Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor, who admitted him as a patient in stable condition.
The victim was later referred/Medevaced to GPHC for additional medical care.
