- Free University education in Guyana from 2025: Ali
According to Guyana’s President Irfaan Ali, preparations for the implementation of free university education beginning in 2025 will begin this year.
The President made the announcement during his State of the Union address, which also highlighted goals for education and other sectors. While the President did not provide specifics about the free university education proposal, he did state that preparations will begin this year.
President Ali stated during an appearance on the E-networks’ Insider television show that the government has already provided thousands of scholarships under the GOAL project, which would result in a better educated workforce.
President Ali stated that funds will be put aside in this year’s budget for considerable improvement in the nation’s education sector.
More than $94 billion was given to the education sector in the 2023 budget, with additional monies provided in supplementary budgets.
