- Hermitage Mountain farmers to get MPs personal support
While work on the rehabilitation of the Hermitage Mountain Road in Spring Village is expected to begin soon, farmers can breathe a sigh of relief after their Member of Parliament, Honourable Carlos James, pledged to personally bear the cost of transporting farmers’ produce out of the Hermitage Mountain.
On Tuesday, the Member of Parliament made the announcement during a public consultation in the Spring Village Community.
While the designs for the farm road are being completed by engineers at the Ministry of Transport and Works, James explained to farmers in the Spring Village community that the obstacles faced by farmers have now become unbearable.
“I want to assure the farmers that we will work together in a reasonable manner to ensure that their produce is transported out of Hermitage Mountain.” “I will personally cover that expense in terms of transportation,” James informed farmers.
James stated that a number of farm roads are now being improved to help farmers in his district with transportation issues, including the recently finished long-line road, the Antoine, Palmyra and Copeland roads, and Hermitage. Other agricultural roads are also being examined for restoration, he said.
The public lecture series and community consultation are initiatives led by the Member of Parliament for North Leeward that focus on development activities in the North Leeward area.
Hon. Saboto Caesar, Minister of Agriculture, and community leader Ian Alexis also spoke at the meeting.
