Allocations of close to $14 million has been provided for Grenadines-specific capital expenditure in 2024.
For Grenadines tourism, $4.8 million will be spent improving airports in Bequia, Canouan and Union Island.
This includes work on tarmacs and terminal buildings, as well as the procurement of fire engines for the JF Mitchell and Union Island Airports.
Additionally, the Canouan airport runway, which requires unusually frequent remedial work, has been prioritised for more long-lasting rehabilitative work.
The Government has received a CDB-funded analysis and design for that runway in the closing days of 2023.
Finance Minister Camilo Gonsalves says Government will fast-track the review and revision of the analysis received, and seek funding for that rehabilitative work to begin as soon as is practicable.
