Deputy Governor, Mr. David Archer, Jr. will act in the Office of Governor from January 18 to January 29, as former Governor, Mr. John J. Rankin, CMG, has departed the Territory following the end of his tenure as Governor of the Virgin Islands.
Acting Governor Archer Jr. will act as Governor until the arrival of Governor Designate, Mr. Daniel Pruce later this month.
The Acting Governor said, “I am honoured and humbled to have been sworn in by His Lordship the Honourable Justice Paul Webster, in the presence of Former Governor Rankin CMG, for the final time, to act in the capacity of Governor. I thank Mr. Rankin for his service to the Territory during his tenure and I wish him well as he retires from the Public Service.”
Deputy Governor Archer Jr’s appointment is in accordance with section 37 (1) (a) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order, 2007 which states, “During any period when the office of Governor is vacant, or the Governor is absent from the Virgin Islands or is for any other reason unable to perform the functions of his or her office, the Deputy Governor shall during His Majesty’s pleasure, act in the office of Governor and shall perform the functions of that office accordingly.”
