- SVG returns to leading position in yachting
St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) has returned to a leading position among yachting destinations across the OECS.
Minister of Tourism, Honourable Carlos James, made the announcement while addressing stakeholders at the annual State of the Tourism Industry Address 2024 at the Cruise Ship Terminal in Kingstown on Tuesday.
According to Minister James, the island led in arrivals on an aggregate over the period 2018 to 2022 and continued its trajectory during its post-pandemic recovery.
Average yachting passengers were just under 40,000 and about 6 percent higher than the second-best performing destination.
“In 2023 we saw an uptick in yachting by 43 percent over the same period the previous year and we are now over 50,000 yachting arrivals. This sub-sector is expected to expand even further in 2024 as we recover from the downturn brought on by the global health pandemic and the eruption of the La Soufriere volcano,” Minister James said.
Minister James noted that the destination will launch two sailing events this year, including a revamped Easter Regatta 2025 and a Sailing Week as part of the World Sailing events.
