Sandals exclusive tour company ‘Island Routes’ is expanding to St. Vincent (SVG) as the mega hotel chain set to open on the Southern Caribbean island on March 27.
According to company officials, Island Routes will expand to St. Vincent, offering 29 private adventure and cultural experiences.
“This expansion is not just a new destination in our quiver but an opportunity for our travel advisor partners to immerse their clients in the heart of the Caribbean and create immersive moments that resonate with the true spirit of travel, according to Island Routes’ head of global sales, David Black.
On Friday, the St. Vincent Times asked several taxi drivers how they felt about the new entrance to the market.
“We knew it was only a matter of time; like the fishermen and farmers, the government never looked out for our interests; the struggle continues,” said a taxi driver of 20 years who wished to remain anonymous.
Island Routes’ St. Vincent and Grenadines experiences include a “Montreal Gardens & Botanical Gardens Experience,” which includes a tour of the region’s oldest botanical garden and a scenic drive through Kingstown.
“Whale and Dolphin Watching Experience” involves exploring the archipelago’s leeward shoreline while spotting pilot, humpback, and sperm whales. The tour concludes with a boat ride along Mt. Wynne’s black-sand beach, where Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed.
The five-hour “Mustique & Bequia Island Hopping Experience” begins with snorkelling at Petit Nevis and continues to Mustique, where Island Routes guides explain the island’s history and famous homes.
Island Routes was initially conceptualised by Adam Stewart, Executive Chairman of Sandals, to support business for Sandals and Beaches. However, David Shields, vice president of sales for Island Routes, says that the company has significantly grown since its beginnings as a small tour desk operation.
“Our tour portfolio is quite expansive, with more than 500 tours in 12 destinations across the region,” Shields said. “In Jamaica, we operate Catamarans, our premium product and a fleet of Mini Coopers that we use for our ‘Mini-Routes.’ Our markets also extend into the eastern Caribbean.”
