Leaders from the Americas and the Caribbean, as well as eminent diplomats from around the world, have started to arrive in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) in preparation for the 8th CELAC Summit, which will take place at the Sandals Resort in Buccament Bay on the southwest coast of the island.
On Friday, March 1, Honduras will take over as pro tempore president from St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil, and Roosevelt Skerrit of Dominica arrived on the island earlier today.
UN Secretary General António Guterres, the foremost diplomat in the world, is scheduled to land at Argyle International Airport , shortly thereafter he will hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves.
The CELAC summit will be attended by about thirty-three heads of state and government in addition to diplomats from the US, Europe, India, Africa, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
CELAC is made up of 33 countries and has a combined population of over 650 million.
