A team from the UBEC CERC CRW SVG Food Insecurity Project visited four poultry farmers who received chicks.
The beneficiaries, Richard Minors, Bernice Murray, Keith Mc Barnett, and Micheal James, shared their experiences and plans for the future.
Since the first distribution in December, approximately 10,000 broiler chicks and 25,000 layer chicks have been distributed to 26 and 73 farmers, respectively.
The farmers who received batches in December have collectively produced over $600,000 worth of broiler meat and eggs, highlighting the project’s dual impact on improving farmers’ livelihoods and bolstering food and nutrition security in SVG.
Further distributions are scheduled for April 2024.
The project aims to increase the production and productivity of selected commodities, particularly among small farmers and fishers, and establish a fast, cost-effective, and sustainable food production system in SVG.
