Monday 8th of April 2024, thirty-two (32) participants took part in a training exercise at the Agricultural Training Institute and at the National Property limited farm at Orange Hill.
These participants included the staff of the Extension and Advisory Services; National Property limited Technical personnel and CARDI’s field technician.
The main objective of the training activities was to provide participants with the recommended theoretical and practical skills and knowledge as they pertain to the successful production of coconuts for local consumption and export.
Participants were trained in variety identification, nursery propagation of seed nuts, planting material selection and preparation, site selection, planting, crop nutrition, irrigation, mulching and harvesting.
The resource personnel were drawn from CARDI in the persons of Mr. Donawa Jackson, local CARDI Representative and Mr. Leroy Jackson, Coconut Consultant.
The training activity is part of the project that began in 2021 which is referred to as Alliances For Coconut Industry Development Expansion and Enhanced Support for the Caribbean.
