The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Transformation, Forestry and Fisheries in collaboration with the Taiwanese Technical Mission began conducting Demonstrations on the Use of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) or Drone for Field Crop Survey.
This activity forms part of the Ministry’s efforts to assess technologies which will strengthen its Geographical Information System (GIS) capabilities to more precisely forecast agricultural production, manage forestry resources as well as conduct more precise storm damage assessments following the passage of tropical systems.
The Demonstration will be done in the Marriaqua Valley, Greggs, South Rivers, Orange Hill, Rabacca and Langley Park from until Thursday 10th August 2017.
The UAV demonstration will be followed by a Workshop on Field Crop Survey and Methodology which includes the requirements of Field Survey Technology, Image Processing, Report Preparation, The application of UAV – Aerial photographing and 3S in Field Crop Survey. The workshop will be held at Computec in Kingstown from Friday 11th – Monday 14th August 2017.
A presentation of the results of the Field Crop Survey will be presented to participants on Tuesday 15th August at the E-Government Training Room. Kingstown.
The demonstration and workshop will target the following participants – GIS Officers from the Forestry Department and the GIS Unit, Ministry of Housing, Agricultural Extension Officers from the Extension and Advisory Services and Officers and Data Collectors from the Agricultural Planning Unit, Lands and Surveys Department and the Ministry of Economic Planning.
