The Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has once again benefitted from the generosity of the Republic of China on Taiwan.
Earlier today, the Embassy of the Republic of China on Taiwan in collaboration with the SimplyHelp Foundation and the Wu Thun-Chih Foundation for Charity and Public Welfare handed over two containers of supplies to the government through the Ministry of National Mobilization, Social Development, the Family, Gender, Persons with disabilities and Youth.
Minister of National Mobilization, Hon. Frederick Stephenson received the donation at a brief ceremony which took place at the Conference Room of the National Emergency Management Organization, NEMO.
The items were donated at a cost of approximately EC$ 294,000 and consist of baby and children supplies such as food, clothing and toys, 430 rolls of fabric and medical supplies.
According to Minister Stephenson, the items will be distributed to Child Care and Early Childhood Institutions, Schools and Organizations which provide garment construction courses as well as those that teach skills training programs to vulnerable groups like women in SVG. The medical supplies will go to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.
Minister Stephenson thanked Ambassador H.E. Baushaun Ger and the Taiwanese Government and people for their continued generosity. The Minster said that this latest collaboration and donation from the charitable organizations will go a long way; it will support the government of SVG with local efforts to assist the vulnerable.
Further, Minister Stephenson added that his Ministry intends to collaborate closely with the Adult and Continuing Education to offer training to more vulnerable adults so that they could acquire skills which will lead them to becoming independent and be able to assist themselves and their families. “Instead of a hand out, we are giving a hand up” Minister Stephenson said.
Meanwhile, Ambassador His Excellency Baushaun Ger expressed gratitude to the SimplyHelp, nonprofit organization and its founder Tina Bow as well as the Wu Thun-Chih Charity Foundation and Public Welfare in Taiwan and SVG’s Counsel General in Los Angeles, USA for collaborating to help Vincentian families through their charitable work.
Ambassador Ger said that he has advised the SimplyHelp Charity to keep St. Vincent and the Grenadines on their list of donors for the year 2018, adding that the gesture serves to further strengthen diplomatic ties between the two countries.
This is the second time that the Taiwanese Charitable Organizations are donating to SVG for the year. In February 2017, they donated 563 parcels of a range of items to the government and people of SVG.
