Acting on information received, the Forestry Services along with the Police, confiscated a quantity of wildlife meat on Monday 16th April, 2018.
The meat of Agouti (Daspiproctor agouti) was initially advertised for sale, an investigation was done and the meat was discovered at a residence in the Upper Cane Hall (Bom Bom) area.
A young man, of the same area, was reprimanded and the weapon used was confiscated by the Forestry Services.
This act is against the laws of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the public is reminded that the closed season for –
Mammals: Opossum (Manicou), Agouti and Armadillo (Tatoo) and; Reptiles: Iguana is 1st February – 30th September.
Therefore, any person who:
a. Any person who hunts, or is a member of a party engaged in hunting any protected wildlife
b. Takes or disturbs the egg, or young of any protected wildlife
c. Damages or destroys the nest, or young of any protected wildlife
d. Has in his possession or control any protected wildlife or part thereof
e. Exposes or offers for sale or purchase any protected wildlife or any part thereof, or the egg, or young thereof
Any person doing the above is guilty of an offence and liable to a fine of two thousand ($2000.00) dollars and in the case of a second or subsequent offence, to a fine of four thousand ($4000.00) dollars and imprisonment for one (1) year according to the Wildlife Protection Act Chapter 55, Section 17.
