Tuesday 8th March recognized this year as International Women’s Day.
As early as 1909, International Women’s Day was started, but was originally called International Working Women’s Day. It was a day when women were striving to be recognised in the work place and were lobbying for equal rights and opportunities. This day, there is no longer the need for that fight for the right to vote or the right to work in meaningful jobs.
In CIBC FirstCaribbean, women now make up the majority of the workforce and there are many who hold senior positions, this shows just how far women have come in the last 100 years.
In all territories that CIBC FirstCaribben International operates events were to mark the occasion.
Here in St Vincent, a tea party was held where the ladies were smartly decked out in hats and sundresses, with guest speaker Dr. Jozelle Miller addressing those in attendance on the topic: “Worth of a woman and the significance of building each other.”
Business Support Officer, Mrs. Jacintha Hinds stated that “the event was a success, and the session was well delivered and received by all.”
