The government of St Vincent and the Grenadines is sending a clear message to persons employed by the state, and whose work attitude is unbecoming.
Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves said there are small pharmacies set up at every clinic across this country, and yet a pharmacist would not turn up or turns up for short periods at a time.
“Am asking the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Health to write up these people send their names to the public service commission, and let the disciplinary action flow”.
Gonsalves says every five years he has to go to the people, so they can mark his exam, and if they are not satisfied with the work he is doing they will kick him out of office, nobody is immune from assessment, he said.
“Think about this, you are a pharmacist, I use my home village and an old person, or not so old person, with diabetes and hypertension, they relying on the tablets, they have the last one, you are supposed to turn up at the clinic and you don’t, what you want them to do, to go into a coma”
“You have no conscience, and what I want the people increasingly to do this, when you find these weaknesses, telephone the office of the prime minister am asking you to do it”, don’t be afraid to complain, don’t go on radio I don’t listen when am working, but you can go if you want, but don’t be afraid to leave your name and number”.
Gonsalves said the government is paying too much money in salaries, and urge Vincentians to do the same for the policemen and women who give the same false information every time saying that they don’t have transportation.
“They just have to walk down the road, five minutes, you want a buggy for five minutes”.
“ And I don’t want you to just complain on the van, because doing so and cussing ralph on the van won’t bring a solution, people must work that’s what they are paid for”.
Gonsalves said some would not like to hear what he is saying, however, he will deal with the matter.
“I can’t fire anybody, I can’t discipline anybody, but I will take the information to the relevant persons in the system, and tell them this is the situation and we need a solution”.
