Eighty (80) children from the community of Top Belair received gifts of school supplies when the Fountain Seventh Day Adventist Church Community Service Department hosted a “Back to School” programme at the Sugar Corner Junction in Top Belair on Saturday 25th August 2018.
The objective of the programme was to foster bonds between the church and the community by providing much needed assistance to families especially the less fortunate and vulnerable ones as they prepare their children for the new school year.
Sis. Phylis Cumberbatch, Community Service Leader for the Fountain SDA Church encouraged parents to play a vital role in the development of their children if they wish for them to be successful in this life.
She also encouraged the parents to be integrally involved with their children in doing their school work especially homework, ensuring that it is done and finally to affirm them when they would have done their best.
Other speakers included Elder Leron France who spoke on the role of parents in the overall development of their children especially their spiritual development.
Dr. Amrie Morris-Patterson who provided tips on school preparation, while Pastor Shane Franklyn, District Pastor for the Southern District of the SVG Mission of Seventh Day Adventist offered prayers of consecration for the children and their families and the community at large.
The event formed part of the Church’s mandate of fulfilling the mission of Christ in the community.
The Fountain SDA Church Community Services Department also provides hot meals and food baskets to shut-ins and less fortunate members of the surrounding community on a regular basis.
