A total of two hundred book bags and other school supplies were donated to students of the Sandy Bay Government and Secondary schools, Langley Park Government and the Pamelus Burke Primary school thanks to former resident of Georgetown, Neil Corke.
Corke in conjunction with the Ministry of Education and his agent Tyrone Burke and his wife Hermisteen Burke handed over the donations to the students on Monday September 17th, 2018.
Corke, who now resides in the United States of America, has been making contributions of this kind for four consecutive years.
Minister of Education, Hon. St. Clair Prince at the handing over ceremony thanked Mr. Corke for the supplies and told students that “it is not just what you put in the bags but how you use them.” The Education Minister urged the students to “read and be responsible with their belongings.”
Local agent Tyrone Burke said the Corke family and friends in the past donated book bags to children in the communities of Georgetown and Byrea.
Food items were also distributed to residents of Sandy Bay after the recent storm and medical supplies were handed over to the Georgetown Hospital while every year a luncheon is held for 50 persons.
