Robust action will be taken against tax defaulters in SVG who have not taken advantage of the tax amnesty period offered by the government earlier IN 2018 to settle tax arrears.
Minister of Finance Camilo Gonsalves In his budget presentation earlier this year, said that the government is owed approximately 300 million dollars in taxes, inclusive of interests and penalties.
For those non-compliant taxpayers who failed to take advantage of the tax amnesty, particularly those employers and businesses who have not paid over Value Added Tax (VAT) and PAYE to the government, Minister Gonsalves said legal action is being initiated against those persons.
Gonsalves at a media conference on Monday said that during the tax amnesty, about EC 8 million dollars was collected from delinquent taxpayers.
The Minister, however, indicated that this falls quite short of the amount that was expected be to collect.
The Finance Minister is appealing to those business and individuals who owe significant amounts of VAT and PAYE to the government to contact the Inland Revenue Department to settle their taxes owed.
