36-year-old Anthony Williams originally from Calder now residing in Canada was on Friday November 16th, 2018 given a reprieve by Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne when he was reprimanded and discharged for the offense of inflicting grievous bodily harm upon 52-year-old Kerwin John from the community of Diamond on November 13th, 2018.
Williams was granted the reprimand when he appeared at the Serious Offences Court and entered a plea of guilty following which Defense Counsel Jomo Thomas mitigated on his behalf.
Thomas requested of the Court to be lenient with his client since Williams was abused by the defendant 25 years ago.
He pointed out that John had attempted to sexually abuse him. On the date in question both parties were travelling in an omni bus when Williams approached John and attempted to remind him of the sordid act which occurred years ago, but he was ignored.
When the bus came to a stop Williams pulled a wheel spanner from the vehicle and struck John several times in his rib cage resulting in an injury.
Following the incident Williams proceeded to the Calliaqua Police Station where he reported the matter.
Both Senior Prosecutor Adolphus Delpesche and Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne having heard what had transpired were in sympathy with Williams indicating that he would have suffered a lot of trauma during those years and did not receive proper counselling.
