Oswell John an 18 years old unemployed male of Paul’s Avenue who was on November 14th 2018 remanded into custody by Senior Magistrate Rickie Burnett for sentencing when he appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate Court and entered pleas of guilty on two separate charges of burglary and damage to property has been given a 3 years sentence suspended for 3 months.
He was also ordered to pay compensation of $390.00 to be paid by January 15th, 2019, in default a three months jail term would be imposed.
John is accused of breaking and entering the New Democratic Party Headquarters situated at Richmond Hill between November 9th and 10th, 2018 and stole a quantity of items which included two Hairoun crates, one hammer, one pig foot and paint among other things and damaging two horse and staples along with two padlocks.
John was arrested and charged by the Police after he was seen leaving the premises with the items and was video-taped by Brian Alexander who live in close proximity.
When summoned by the Court to give his recommendation General Secretary of the New Democratic Party Tyrone James requested of the Senior Magistrate to send a strong warning due to the fact that the build was burglarized on four previous occasions.
Before imposing sentence the Senior Magistrate said that he does not have any sympathy on persons who burglarizes people’s homes.
