The government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) entered into a contract with Mac Construction Inc. on March 7, 2016, for the rehabilitation of the Learning Resource Center (LRC) in Ashton, Union Island.
The contract, worth some XCD 414.5 thousand, represents the lowest qualifying tender received, and is funded by the World Bank under the Regional Disaster Vulnerability Reduction Project (RDVRP).
The works, which will rehabilitate the building to meet the emergency shelter standards of the National Emergency Management Organisation, forms part of government’s priority investments to reduce the country’s physical and economic vulnerability to adverse natural events through building resilience to current and future climatic changes.
The works, which includes the installation of hurricane shutters, the replacement of windows, and upgrades to the rest rooms and external drainage, will commence on May 30, 2016 and is expected to last four (4) months.
The RDVRP is supporting SVG’s efforts to prevent and adapt to the effects of climate change, strengthen hazard and risk evaluation, and improve decision making.
