Police say the shooting occurred at the intersection of St. John’s Place and Schenectady Avenue around 2 a.m. in Crown Heights.

Family members say the man killed was 46-year-old Benedict Sam, a livery cab driver who lived in the area.

Police spent the morning investigating a van at the scene that appeared to have damage to it.  They say Sam was transported to Kings County Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest and was later pronounced dead.

The victim’s brother and niece say Sam was well known in the area and liked by so many.
