Effective Monday, June 6, classes of the Canouan Government School will be relocated to two churches on the island.
Grades K – 1 will be housed at the SDA Church and Grades 2 – 6 at the Anglican Church.
According to a reliable source, there were no classes at the school this week as teachers refused to enter the school building out of fear that the building was unsafe.
Parents also kept their children away. Large cracks have appeared in the walls and floor of certain areas of the school building.
Government engineers had said that most of the school building was safe enough to be used until the end of term, but an engineer consulted by the St Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers Union had advised teachers to stay clear of the structure.
