The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) is calling on Vincentians to be more educated about the La Soufriere Volcano and the implications it can have on communities here, in the event of an eruption.
The call was made by NEMO’s Director Ms. Michelle Forbes, as the organization prepares to host a month of activities to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Last Eruption of La Soufriere volcano from April 4th to May 4th.
Ms. Forbes told said although La Soufriere Volcano is inactive, it is important that persons become aware of the dangers it poses.
The Director said the activities are a collaborative effort between NEMO and a number of local agencies, including the SVG Red Cross.
The activities will be officially launched during a Soufriere Blow Out Exhibition, to be held on Friday 12th April, 2019 at the car park, next to the Postal Corporation in Kingstown.
This will be followed by the annual Public Educational Field Trip to the La Soufriere Volcano, via the Leeward side of the island on Saturday 13th April 2019.
