Trade Unionist Noel Jackson, says that the lawyer in the court matter involving Ben Exeter, is out to intimidate and that there is no substance in the many public pronouncements being made.
Jackson said that the focus has now shifted from the court matter to acting Magistrate, Bertie Pompey, who has been asked to recuse himself from the matter.
The argument by Exeter’s lawyer is that Pompey is a former police officer and that the case has been brought by the police against Exeter, and Pompey will be naturally sympathetic to the police’s charge. Jackson, however, states that such an argument is nonsensical.
Exeter was charged with being in possession of a licensed firearm, while being part of a demonstration the NDP organised.
