The launch of the Fisherman’s Day activities will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019, in the yard of Agriculture Input Warehouse Kingstown Fish Market commencing at 10:00 am.
A month of activities has been planned in commemoration of the 44th year of celebrations commencing from May 10, 2019, and will culminate on Whit Monday; June 10, 2019.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Climate Change affects the Ocean, Fish responsibly to sustain the industry” and the slogan is “We Fish It, You Dish It”. This theme was selected because Climate Change is a serious threat facing all islands in the Caribbean.
Over the past decade, the ocean’s warming has disrupted critical fisheries worldwide. This year the Fisherman’s Day Committee wishes to play its role in raising awareness of this issue.
This remarkable milestone should be saluted, as the fishing industry continues to make indelible contributions to food security, livelihoods and household income in this country.
