(By Javin Jacobs) – The National Hurricane Center said recent satellite wind data indicate that a low-pressure area has formed in the Central Atlantic.
Forecasters say this is in association with a tropical wave located about 1300 miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands.
Additional development of this system is possible during the next few days, and a tropical depression could form late this weekend or early next week.
The center said the low-pressure area is expected to move generally westward to west-northwestward near 15 mph.
Formation through 48 hours stands at medium with a 40 percent chance, while formation through 5 days stands at medium with a 50 percent chance.
