Tropical Storm Dorian continues to track west-northwestward towards St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
At 11:00 pm, the center of Tropical Storm ‘Dorian’ was located by a “Hurricane Hunter” aircraft near 13.2 North…59.7 West or about 100 miles (161 km) east of St. Vincent.
Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 50 mph (85km/h), with tropical-storm-force winds extending outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from the center. The minimum central pressure has increased to 1003 mb (29.62 inches).
The general motion remains west-north west and is expected to continue tonight through Tuesday night. On its present forecast track, the center of the system is expected to pass near St. Vincent and the Grenadines early Tuesday morning.
Sustained surface winds between 58 to 70 mph (93 to 113km/h) with higher gusts are expected to spread across St. Vincent and the Grenadines early Tuesday morning, persisting into the afternoon.
In addition, pockets of moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected into Tuesday. Rainfall accumulations of at least 3 to 8 inches (75 to 200 mm) are possible with isolated higher amounts.
Residents in areas prone to flash-flooding and landslides; and near rivers and streams should be prepared.\
Large easterly to south-easterly swells of 2.5 to 3.5 meters (8 to 12 feet) are also forecast to accompany the system. Low-lying coastlines around the islands will be particularly vulnerable at times of high tide. Large waves and dangerous rip-tides can be expected. These will create unsafe conditions for small-craft operators and fishermen.
A High-Surf Advisory and Small-Craft Warning will remain in effect until 6 pm, Tuesday 27th August, 2019.
High Tides are expected around 2:20 am and 2:24 pm on Tuesday 27th August. Residents are urged to continue monitoring the progress of this system.
