(CIBS) – The Accident and Emergency Department continues to attract great public attention because of service and conditions.
Months after a video clip went viral of a woman who collapsed at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital and was ignored by nurses at the facility, there were many numerous comments on radio and social media as pertaining to the presence of mold and other conditions.
“This is ridiculous! This is an emergency room where you come to save lives. Look at the place. Watch!”
District Medical Officer for the Calliaqua district Dr Michael Goodluck made the comment captured on video while at the Accident and Emergency Department of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) in capital Kingstown last Friday.
Dr Goodluck’s complaint about the condition of the nation’s premier health facility was witnessed by Elroy Boucher who is employed in the Maintenance Department and who is president of the Public Service Union (PSU).
Dr Goodluck repeatedly referred to Boucher in the video but it is not clear whether Dr Goodluck was addressing Boucher an employee at the hospital or in the capacity as union president. It appeared that Boucher just happened to be at the location at the time. It was observed, though, that there was no response recorded from Boucher.
“Watch! Watch! Watch! Watch! This is tearful! How can you have a hospital with fungus like this in the asthma bay among other places?” Dr Goodluck said.
“You know, as I talk here, I inhaling some,” the medical practitioner said. No, Boucher, look at this and when you talk the truth they come and talking ‘bout you trying to make the prime minister look bad and all kinda stupidness. Look at that!”
Pointing to another part of the ceiling, Dr Goodluk said “Look at fungus and Vincentians, for the sake of ‘Labour love,’ they ‘fraid to speak.”
“I come in here to get a room to do dressing, the room so stink. Look! Look!” Dr Goodluck said. “I see cotton on the ground that wipe somebody sore foot and they throw — I don’t know how it reach dey. All this kind of nonsense. Look! Look!”
Dr Goodluck noted that there were public criticisms about the condition and service but he did not believe until his experience.
“I hear people call in on the radio, I say they can’t be joking. I come down her for myself. Watch!
And we’re saving lives? Where? In here? Alyo making bare sport,” Dr Goodluk said.
