The Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Basketball Federation is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Sabrina Mitchell to the Finance Commission of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) for the four-year term, 2019 to 2023.
Mitchell, whose long standing involvement in basketball administration in SVG goes back over 20 years, currently serves as President of the Zonal affiliate Bequia Basketball, Manager of the SVG Men’s National Team and as Secretary General of the Caribbean Confederation.
The appointment letter from the FIBA Secretary General, Andreas Zagklis states ‘It is with pleasure that I herewith inform you (Ms. Sabrina Mitchell) of FIBA Central Board’s decision to appoint you to the FIBA Finance Commission, Term of Office 2019-2023. This appointment reflects your skills, experience and your unfailing commitment to basketball.’
The President and Executive of the SVG Basketball Federation are elated at this appointment, as the President and the new Executive, on coming to office in July 2019, made the nomination.
The FIBA Commissions have a 4-year term of office and act in a consultative capacity to the FIBA Central Board, the global governing body of basketball. The FIBA General Statutes describe the mission of the Commission as follows:
ARTICLE 26: THE FINANCE COMMISSION
The Finance Commission has the following duties:
- To review and recommend the FIBA draft budget for submission to the Central Board for approval;
- To prepare financial statements for the Central Board for approval;
- To study and recommend acceptance of the auditor’s report to the Central Board; and
- To recommend financial investment policies.
The President and Executive of the SVG Basketball Federation as well the entire basketball fraternity extend congratulations to Ms. Mitchell on her prestigious appointment.
