A national consultation to review the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tsunami Warning Protocol will take place at the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) office on October 8 – 9, 2019 beginning at 8:30 a.m. each day.
The Opening Ceremony will take place on Tuesday October 08, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Mrs. Yvette Pompey will make remarks at the Opening Ceremony.
The Consultation to review the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tsunami Warning Protocol forms part of NEMO’s ‘UNESCO IOC CARIBE EWS Tsunami Ready Pilot Project’ being implemented on mainland St. Vincent.
The two day National Consultation is being facilitated the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) with support from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Caribbean Tsunami Information Centre (CTIC), and the United States Agency for International Development Office for Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA).
The Consultation targets senior officers from across various Government Ministries including: Agriculture, National Security, National Mobilisation, Housing, Education, Tourism, Economic Planning, Transport and Works, Foreign Affairs, the Customs and Excise Department, the Argyle International Airport, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Meteorological Services, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Port Authority, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Hotel and Tourism Association and representatives from the coastal communities of Union Island, Rose Place and Diamond.
The objectives of the Consultation are:
- To present the revised St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tsunami Warning Protocol tothe National Stakeholders
- To advance the finalization of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tsunami Warning Protocol through the process of highlighting the roles and responsibilities of the National Stakeholders as outlined in the document and to get their feedback and consensus
- To have a completed St Vincent and the Grenadine’s Tsunami WarningProtocol
- To provide National Stakeholders with the opportunity to familiarize themselves with their roles and responsibilities as outlined in the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tsunami Warning Protocol through a Tabletop Simulation Exercise which will be held on October 9,
