Morning Updates on COVID-19 for March 24, 2020:
1. In light of the videos circulating showing a patient being delicately handled by health workers in protective gear, I would like to take this opportunity to repeat what was said in a Ministry of Health press release last night – yesterday, an isolation chamber was used to transport a patient from a private healthcare facility to the Kingstown District Flu Clinic for medical care.
There is nothing untoward about it. The patient in not considered to be a COVID-19 suspect case, and may be suffering from the flu. However, out of an abundance of caution and in light of what is happening in the world, reasonable precautions were taken pending the outcome of further investigations including a COVID-19 test.
2. Yesterday, the Honourable Prime Minister held consultations with hoteliers and other tourism sector stakeholders. He will meet today for similar talks with representatives of the banks, credit unions, insurance companies and other financial institutions.
3. The Ministry continues to routinely carry out tests for COVID-19 through the Caribbean Public Health Agency and should receive results from the most recent batch of tests today. We will keep you informed.
4. We are following developments around the world as nations respond to COVID-19. In particular, we note the movement restriction put in place by the Prime Minister of the UK and actions by regional governments.
