St. Vincent and the Grenadines and other OECS countries are expected to benefit from 6.2 million US dollars from the Global Fund, provided by the United Nations, to combat the spread of HIV and AIDs along with other Sexually Transmitted Diseases.
The Ministry of Health revealed this during the commencement of a two-day meeting, to discuss the new funding model grant agreement, which is designed to implement HIV, STI and TB interventions within the OECS.
With 2 million people newly infected with HIV/AIDS last year and more than 20 million still lacking antiretroviral treatment, eradicating the disease by 2030 would require the right mix of prevention, treatment and care policies.
The meeting is taking place over a two-day period at the Telecommunications Conference Room in the CLICO Building in Kingstown and concludes today.
